Carphone's latest pot-kettle moment

Posted by David Meyer

Remember that piece we did on Carphone Warehouse's extraordinary slanging match with, ooh, just about everyone roundabout the time it bought AOL UK? Remember how they laid into Vodafone and Phones 4U for their cosy arrangement?

Well check this out! CPW have themselves signed an exclusivity deal with an operator in Spain. And, as Keith points out, this new service is just designed to raise an operator's blood pressure. A full 12 points for the entertainment value, Mr Dunstone!

The next incarnation of Windows Mobile

Posted by David Meyer

For all you WinMob fans out there, some screenshots of Windows Mobile 6.0 or whatever they'll call Codename:Crossbow when it comes out. Looks good - obviously going with the Vista look, and it definitely seems like an improvement on the current WM Smartphone interface.

This blog's name

Posted by David Meyer

OK, as sterling analyst (and we're talking more than currency here) James Enck has pointed out to me, there is at least one other blog with a similar name to this one. All I can say is hey, it's good that the memory of Led Zeppelin is being kept alive. Although if anyone does get too miffed, I will consider a namechange.

Old School GSMA

Posted by David Meyer

Check out this post from the always well-informed Dean Bubley. We received this press release too, but with all the hectic redesign stuff going on (how's the new site, by the way?) it kind of fell by the wayside.

Anyway, as per usual Dean is spot on. Ever since the European Commission started waving its pointed stick at the operators, surprise surprise, roaming charges etc have been plummeting - yet the operators have been consistently claiming this as a natural evolution of the market. Here's a case in point. And the reaction should be: hmmm.

What? Why?

This is revolting. And not very practical. End of comment.
