Google Android Contest Buys Mobile Developer Silence?

Google Android Contest Buys Mobile Developer Silence?
By Eric Everson, Founder – MyMobiSafe.com

What happens when a prize company like Google dangles $10 Million in front of a hungry group of mobile application developers?

As fate might have it, everyone drops off the face of the earth. With the start of the Google Android contest in clear view, the developers have all disappeared. Perhaps the $10M prize may just be the grand opportunity for an aspiring developer to leap from mom’s basement to the major league.

Since the contest details were released the mobile application developer chat rooms and forum circuit have become much less collaborative. Then again, if you share too much at this stage you might just wind up losing your $10M Google meal ticket. Where the massages boards where lit up before, the Android SDK has brought a certain “calm before the storm” to the net.

Open Source Foundation of Universal Mobile Torrents

Open Source Foundation of Universal Mobile Torrents
By: Eric Everson, Founder MyMobiSafe.com

Torrent platforms are beginning to make their way into the mobile community. As torrents swept through computer based platforms, the same will bode true of mobile torrents. Though mobile torrents face a few unique barriers of entry, the migration towards open source is beckoning the advancement of universal mobile torrents.

The day is forthcoming when universal mobile torrents (UMTs) will work across all mobile operating systems. As torrent technology is a mainstay in the sister industry of computing, UMT’s will saturate cell phones throughout the world.

While not an imminent concern today, such UMTs represent critical security obstacles for cell phone security professionals. As UMTs evolve, all handsets that employ them will be at increased risk of downloading malicious content. As security metrics vary drastically between cell phones and computers, UMTs create greater security vulnerabilities for government, enterprise, and individual cell phone users alike.

With the mobile industry migrating towards open source, the development of true universal mobile torrents is becoming a mobile security reality. Already for specific mobile operating systems WinMobile Torrents and the recently introduced SymTorrent platforms are growing in popularity. With Google’s Android ushering in yet another open platform a torrent package is sure to emerge early for the G-Phone. As cell phones collectively migrate toward open source interlinking the operating systems by means of a UMT is only inevitable.

As the founder of MyMobiSafe.com, naturally I see the risk before the reward of UMTs but I (like most) am also starved for good mobile content. Mobile torrents will provide a medium for high quality third-party mobile content to enter mass market cellular users.

Here’s to what’s hot in mobile!

Holiday Shopping Scams Targeting Mobile

Holiday Shopping Scams Targeting Mobile
By Eric Everson, Founder MyMobiSafe.com

Today is the illusive “Hack Monday” which always follows the Black Friday holiday shopping kickoff. Every year on this day there is a rise in scams and malware directed at holiday shoppers and this year is no exception.

What many are finding is that the mobile community is a hot target. Scammers are offering bargain basement prices on the latest cell phones and accessories and buyers should beware. If the price looks too good to be true, then it probably is! Think realistically, there is no way that iPhone online only costs $39.99. Don’t become prey to scam sites trying to obtain your personal information.

Reputable sellers are the best place to turn for holiday shopping for all mobile devices. I’m not saying that you won’t be able to snag a great deal for a handset on EBay, but make sure you feel confident in your seller first.

While iPhone scams are hot right now just in time for holiday shopping, mobile snoopware is coming on very strong too. With snoopware programs capable of turning your cell phone into a remote monitoring device (activating microphones and/or cameras to record you or your communications) all cell phone owners should exercise additional caution around this time of year. Do not open any unrecognized text messages as malware could be embedded.

I’ll continue to share tips to keep the mobile community safe throughout the holiday shopping season.

Cheers,

Eric Everson, Founder

Google Android 56.7 MB of Pure Mobile Opportunity
By Eric Everson, Founder MyMobiSafe.com

Don’t be the last one to download the Android SDK; for third-party developers this is a chance to shine. What will you make with your Android SDK? Perhaps your vision will change the future of mobile gaming or mobile entertainment?

Developers are encouraged to get creative with a $10 million dollar prize bag up for grabs via the Android Challenge. There aren’t too many developers I know that wouldn’t be motivated by 10 million big ones. Are you worth your weight in code?

Investing In Mobile Security

Investing In Mobile Security
By Eric Everson, Founder MyMobiSafe.com

With many uncertainties in the global financial markets, there seems to be a lack of opportunity for commercial investment. Perhaps this lack of options is what has business investors looking at unique technology sectors such as mobile security for their investments. Better yet, it could be the abundance of opportunity that exists within the mobile security industry that makes investment a sure thing.

It seems that breakthrough technology, clear value proposition, and large market opportunity are leading reasons that investors are so hungry for the mobile security industry. These features compounded with the recent announcements of so many handset manufacturers to the effect of mobile operating systems migrating towards open source. Open-source platforms present not only an abundance of mobile security obstacles but market opportunities as well.

Mobile security leaders such as Symantec, F-Secure, Bluefire, and MyMobiSafe have all seen increasing investment interest in their business. The mobile security market is still young enough that investments could pay large dividends for investors. As the founder of MyMobiSafe.com, all I see is opportunity within this market segment. The future of mobile security does not have a definite leader, so any size firm is still capable of rising to the top. While many handset owners are fearful of the security threats that open-source represents, investors are cashing in on the opportunity.

Cheers,
Eric Everson, Founder
