Though its actual existence has not confirmed by Amazon, Jeff Bezos the CEO will be giving a news conference in the Morgan library and Museum in New York. A previous 11 to 13 week wait for the Kindle has now been set to 4 to 6 weeks tying in nicely with that wait time. With version one out of stock since November and e-book sales on the rise it is a timely and much needed update. Expect to see a smoother more refined casing and bigger chip set allowing for faster screen refreshes and also more touch screen features.
Now if only they would make the GUI just a tad more appealing and drop the price by half maybe I would get one.

May be its me but given the new interface of the iphone and palmpre I am really taken back everytime I look at an e-reader and see how clunky the software is.
Ok it's displayed in e-ink but I for one still love the first gen ipod software and wonder why ebook and (linux) based readers cannot sharpen up there act. As for the readers themselves they have more button than a tv remote and as Apple is unlikely to make one what will happen to them ?
I'd like to have one but at the moment despite the big increase in books available I find the clunky software and crappy hardware no incentive to buy into ?
Am I alone on this ?

I want to buy a netbook for my wife, she wants Windows XP (Vita chokes these things) and needs to hook it up to a data projector. I really like the Compaq 700 but cant find any info on the expansion port and whether a cable exists to a vga out. There are so many of this mini books now and some of them seem really awful, as a Mac user I am out of my depth and as Apple seems for some reason to be holding off a netbook in favour of the air not sure where to go. Any thoughts my fellow Zdnet people.
thanks

Steve Job has today written to Apple employees saying he will be off day to day work til June. A more complicated than thought health issues has meant that Tim Cook will now take over from Jobs until the summer.
Rest well Mr Jobs and get well soon

A tri band or quad band phone set up which seems a little backward to me. I know we are looking at a US phone to come out first but don't most smart phone users trave -l so why no GSM radio for use outside the USA. Please Palm don't make a goof with this phone you can't afford to..
Anyone know why they would do this ?
