Professional Biography
Currently a Ph.D. student in bioinformatics at the European Bioinformatics Institute, I have worked on a few open-source projects throughout the past 5 years, both for fun and, most recently, on a Google Summer of Code project. "Back in the day," I worked on Get It Together, an open-source iTunes-like media player and server.
I'm currently interested in a few areas:
First, I'd like to work on creating novel user interfaces for visualizing complex biological data. For example, my summer project was to create a program for visualizing phylogenetic trees (you know, that "tree of life" thing that some old fogey named Darwin came up with 150 years ago?).
In addition, I have three brothers who I grew up playing videogames with, and we all have matured into amateur or professional game programmers to some extent. While creating games for the web is our current area of expertise (see AndrewBerman.org for examples), we'd like to be making mobile games one day, so the Android announcement has intrigued all of us.
