Professional Biography

Ian James has over 30 years management experience, gained primarily in the Management and Information Systems area and covering every aspect from operations to strategy, and from technical, through programme, to corporate and commercial management, in user, IT service and government environments. He has an exceptional blend of management, technical, marketing, communication, relationship management and organisational skills and expertise which qualifies him to operate in a very wide range of roles and positions. He is a highly professional and experienced consultant, a well-respected and capable interim manager and a tenacious yet diplomatic trouble-shooter in technical, management and consultancy environments.
Following an IT development career culminating as Projects Development Manager for Unilever Computer Services, Ian became an independent consultant in 1978. Major assignments have included a 2-year interim post on the board of an international news agency, secondments in a mix of interim management and consultancy roles over nearly 20 years as a Principal Consultant to the Strategic Assignments Consultancy Service (SACS) of HM Treasury’s Office of Government Commerce; interim EDS Programme Director on the UK MOD JPASS Programme; interim Commercial Management roles at the UK Immigration & Nationality Directorate and at the Department for Communities and Local Government; and interim Deputy Controller of the UK Identity and Passport Programme. His specialisms include Marketing, Business Development, Customer Management, Project and Programme Management, IS/IT Strategy, Management Organisation and Methods, Outsourcing, IS/IT Procurement and Commercial Management.
Ian is a British Computer Society Chartered Information Technology Professional. No longer a technical practitioner, he has retained a significant professional interest in IT, particularly in how IT supports the user at the desktop. He is the Managing Director of Alombond Limited (his management consultancy practice) and of new venture SourceOut Limited – which has been established to act as a trusted intermediary between UK small businesses and the smaller-size outsourcing and off-shoring organisations, particularly in India.
