Professional Biography
Simon Bisson and Mary Branscombe are freelance technology journalists and regular bloggers for ZDNet UK.
Mary has been a technology writer for nearly two decades, covering everything from early versions of Windows and Office to the first smartphones, the arrival of the Web and most things in between, from consumer to small business technology. Simon specialises in architecture and enterprise IT and sometimes describes his move into computer journalism as 'career as verb rather than noun'; he has a background in academic, military and telecoms research, ran one of the UK's first national ISPs and found writing a natural progression from consultancy around the time of the dotcom boom.
With a Blackberry in one pocket, an iPhone in other, a Windows Mobile smartphone in one hand, clutching an Android phone and schlepping tablet PCs and netbooks around we're rarely away from computers entirely, but when not working we're most likely to be found absorbed in a book, off travelling, making a fuss of our cats, cooking something elaborate with a lot of garlic or - in Mary's case - thinking about taking up pottery again, or finishing the knitting, embroidery and patchwork quilts I've been working on for the last umpteen years... Simon is likely to be taking photographs and maybe, just maybe, finishing an SF short story...
